Upgrade Communicator 2007 to Lync 2010
Just like previous versions, you can perform an in-place upgrade directly to Lync 2010 client (release candidate) from Communicator 2007 R2. You will be prompted to close any affected applications that are opened at the time of running setup for the Lync 2010 client. At the end of installation, you can choose to start and run the Lync client to get online immediately.

Nice, and it's just too bad we don't have in place upgrade for the server too.
